Hi Bo,
I came across your website and found it concise and informative.
My question: my husband and I would like to finance a car and
found an unwarranted item on our credit report that naturally brought
our score down and were faced with a higher interest rate.
It's with AT&T, a 'penalty' for early switching away, although we
were with them for over 2 years. Not only did they overcharge us
in our monthly bills but also damaged our credit score by adding
the 'penalty'.
How do I get rid of this unwanted item fast ?
Please advise. Thank you so much.
Sincerely,
Real Live Human

Negotiate with AT&T.
Pay off and open the old account with them to get it off your report.
Or just pay them and get a zero balance.
But the account will still show bad for 7 years from date of last activity on your report unlesss you can negotiate some credit help if you pay or re open the account after you pay.
Ask for confirmation if you do get a credit help agreement with someone.
