Hello,
I was reading your website and thought I would ask a question, I was looking at my credit report and found a collection agency entry on one of the three credit reports, Experian, its only for $17.00 but I need to get it off or at least show as paid, I may owe the money, I don’t know, it’s from the town I used to live in for garbage pickup service,
We are buying a house, since we had filed bankruptcy anything I can do to get my scores higher so I can get a better rate, So here is the questions:
I could pay the $17 dollars to the collection agency, try to get them to remove the entry, but what if they then notified all three credit bureaus? Then I’d be worse off
I could pay the town, then dispute it through Experian
Any other ideas?
Thanks!

Seventeen dollars is not helping or hurting your score but it needs to show paid in full. So talk to the collection agency and see if they will take it off if you pay the fee. You may need to get authorization for the collection agency to do this from the town.
