Click the link to see the original question about bad accounts on my credit report that are seven years old. Fix my bad credit report free. Self help: A 7 year old debt showed up on my credit report. Is that legal?
You can get a bad credit accounts removed from your credit report after seven years has passed by using my free universal dispute form for 7 years old credit and credit mistakes or errors.

A couple of years back i went abroad to study and i loaded about 9 credit cards with stuff. the plan was that my parents were going to pay it back while i was gone, but my father lost his job. long story short, a couple of things got charged off and i've got a lot of negative remarks on my credit.

i dont know my score, but i know that i've got a whole bunch of stuff on there that doesn't look good and are now PAID OFF. is there anyway i can get them taken off considering they've been paid in full, or am i going to have to wait for the whole 7 years thing to go by? i can't even get a small credit card, but i've got an excellent job and no debt. anything i can do? i heard that if i'm persistant with the credit agencies and write them letters explaining the situation, they may be able to clear it up.... is that true? please help. i've just gotten married and we want to buy another home together, but i'm scared that'll look bad...

thanks, Live Human Being

you got to open new good credit and get 2 years of it on the books.

Dispute anything on your report that might be wrong in any way.
http://www.oskie.com/credit-dispute.htm

Try to open 1 or 2 of the old charged off accounts numbers by calling and begging if you pay in full and add a couple hundred to open up with a positive balance. Work with them one year and then ask them to drop the old bad. Credit cards usually report the last 24 months mainly and will often agree to drop old bad if they have new good.

Thursday, June 28, 2007

1) According to privacy matters my Equifax score (which is my middle score) is 568. I also have Scorewatch with Equifax which says my score is 481. Which is accurate? Why the huge discrepancy?
2) This is what I have done thus far:
1) I have set up my bills to pay automatically. Especially my credit cards, so that I can get my balances down and pay on time.
2)I have disputed a couple of items that are not mine. They have zero balances but have several 30-60 past
dues on them.
2) I have disputed some past due 30 days that are incorrect. A couple show 2 months that are late when actually it was just one.
3) For the months that actually were late, I have sent out goodwill letters explaining why I was late and asking them to remove the lates.
4) One account is listed as a charge off but was paid in full. I have disputed that.

Basically I think that is it. I would like to get a mortgage loan around September. Do you think these things will improve my score enough to do that. It is hard to be patient. This is almost obsessive. What would you guess my score increase will be if all these things turn out well.

If you have three open and one year old lines of credit maybe 50 points

I'm trying toclean up my husband's credit score to buy a house. Our loan officer told us to first dispute all negative marks online, then negotiate with creditors. Unfortunately, I disputed online before discovering your website. I'm afraid the bureaus will find it frivolous since I disputed so many. If they do, can Idispute them again a couple at a time? If so, is there a wait period? What do you suggest at thispoint? Thank you for any tips.

Use the free universal credit dispute form on my website.
you will have an answer and update in 30 days.

I recently got a credit report from all major three and noticed that there are 3 medical collections and 3 past due accounts.
I must remove them completely ASAP, due to the fact that I graduate in a month and employers will not hire me for that.
What should I do to remove them effectively?
I have paid 2 medical collections in full already.

Please help ~!!!!! Thanks
----------------------
Bo Majors / to Live human / show details / May 3

Should have negotiated to get them off completely before you paid. But the employer will most likely let you go if all things showed paid in full.
Of course get the others up to date and paid as agreed.
------------------------------
Thanks for your quick reply Bo. I appreciate it.I have some skepticism about credit removal.

1. The 2 medical collection agency(BAY AREA CREDIT) told me they willremove them once I write the reasons why so delay on payments. I told themto write a letter to back it up, but they say it is not possible.

2. I signed up with ACADEMY LAW FIRM to remove the negative items. Istill have 2 more days to cancel.Should I really believe BAY AREA CREDIT when they say they will removethem?I do not think the ACADEMY LAW FIRM will do the job but ripping me off.

Lastly, I have a collection on medical bill, pay $50 monthly out of$2500.00.----should I write a letter to make sure I get removal after thefull pay? or validation letter?IT WILL BE BOTHERSOME, but PLEASE HELP.
------------------------------
Get something in writing from bay area credit. YES!

I would have negotiated before I started payments. But Yes here too. When you start making payments you have validated the debt so there is no need to validate it. Why would you pay if it is not yours.

Hi Bo,

I came across your website and found it concise and informative.
My question: my husband and I would like to finance a car and
found an unwarranted item on our credit report that naturally brought
our score down and were faced with a higher interest rate.

It's with AT&T, a 'penalty' for early switching away, although we
were with them for over 2 years. Not only did they overcharge us
in our monthly bills but also damaged our credit score by adding
the 'penalty'.

How do I get rid of this unwanted item fast ?
Please advise. Thank you so much.

Sincerely,
Real Live Human

Negotiate with AT&T.
Pay off and open the old account with them to get it off your report.
Or just pay them and get a zero balance.
But the account will still show bad for 7 years from date of last activity on your report unlesss you can negotiate some credit help if you pay or re open the account after you pay.
Ask for confirmation if you do get a credit help agreement with someone.

pay after negotiation with each creditor to get bad marks removed. Pay anyway if they won't.
Get new, good, reported to at least one of the three majors bureaus, lines of credit that are currently open and at least one year old.
Pay money down to reputable gas cards or visa mastercard to get started. No cap one or discover.

Hello Bo,
Your site is very helpful thanks for the free advice. I'm writing because I have a few questions about my credit. I currently have a collection on my report from my car insurance company. I lost my job and my insurance lapsed. I went through the same company the second time. They took the last payment and spread it through my new policy which I just paid off. The collection is still there. If I dispute this can it be removed? Also, I'm only 19 and I have a very low credit score because I don't have a long credit history and I've had too many businesses look and my credit ( seven inquiries in 12 months). I want to buy a new car and with my age and my credit score being only 574 it makes it very difficult. Do you have any suggestions. I also thought of getting a loan for a cheap used car first. Do you think this is a good idea or should I wait a few months to raise my score. Can you help me please. I'll appreciate any advice you give me.

Thank You

A collection from car insurance that you have now and is current? That should be negotiable. Call the insurer and firmly ask for removal and a letter stating you are current and paid as agreed as the debt must be paid off or they would not allow you to keep current insurnace with them.

7 inquiries in 12 months is not hurting your score. No current rated credit and past bad credit is hurting your score. In one year you can raise you score big time with 3 current rated and reported credit cards or loans.

I had 4 collection items on my credit report. I have since pd them. I have a calr loan that was showing 30 day late several times. I have since caught up ans it should start showing as current. My current score is 580. I hope my score increases quickly. The collection agencies have agreed to remove the items. How much do you think my score will increase?
--------------
Bo Majors / to Real Live Human / show details / Apr 25
you need to get the 30 day late marks 1 year in the reaview mirror AND keep at least 3 open rated and reported loans or cards open and your score will jump to 680. I would say if you get all the collections gone it will help you up to 50 points and all bad credit 1 year in the rearview with new good stuff will put you in the 680-700's in one year.

I have a some questions about my credit situation. I have raised my score (middle score) to 622, but have some past collections, 2 car repos from 2003= $20,000, and some other small colections totaling around $5000. So total collections is $25,000. All collections are at least 2-3 years old. All recent (2 years) loans are in great staus.

Question #1- Without having the money in full to take care of these, what is the best way to take care of them?

Question #2- My wife and I are renting, we are looking forward to purchasing a house. Should I not attempt to buy until the past collections are paid?

Thank you, Live Human Being

Are the collections actively trying to collect now or has that come and gone. With repos usually they sell the car and bill for the difference between what u owed and what the car sold at autcion for. So 20000 sounds high unless something is active.
If not I would let that go. It is too much money. At most I might settle for 30 cents on the dollar what is left between owed and sold at auction. NEVER the full payoff.

If you have stable job and income you should be able to get some type of loan.
2 repos generally disquailfy most first rate credit lenders. There are many owner financing or private finance people that work with folks.
I would ask a bank about gettting financed and see what they say. Maybe an independant Mortgage Borker would be even better.
They will tell you exactly what you need to do as far as credit.

Hi, my name is Real Live Person.
I came across your website in an attemp to try to fix my credit issues on my own. I have absolutely no idea where to begin. Right now I am 26 years old and my credit score is 541. My major issue comes with a house I was purchasing in 2002. To make a very long story short, I had a great job and I concieved my 4 year old daughter and gave birth to her on May 30, 2003. 1 week after her delivery I was put into the hospital with a horrible infection, very close to death. When I was released from the hopital I could not work for 2 months, resulting in the loss of my job. Obviously, without a job for that long, getting behind on bills came very easily, they repossed my home and my vehicle.

I definately can understand these being on my credit report but there are a few things on there that I think I would like to dispute. Including a few old hospital bills, an electric bill and a Verizon Wireless account that I never set up. There are also a couple of items on there that I have no idea what they could be, even after going through all of my paper work.
Also, showing up are 2 different cars, both of these cars were trade-ins so I do not understand how they are showing up on my report. Here is my list: GET READY

So, thats it, if there is any way that you could help me out, that would be great!!! One very important question that I do have is a matter of your opinion. Would you recommend me to try to fix this mess of credit that I have here, or would you suggest that I should just file bankruptcy. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Of course dispute ANYTHING you "would like to dispute"
Looks like midland and verizon are duplicates one must go for sure.
Try anything insurance you can on the hospital stuff.
pay off anything you can if they agree to remove it from your report when paid in full. Get something in writing.
http://www.oskie.com/credit-repair-negotiate-with-creditors-remove-delete-bad-credit-collections-charge-offs.htm
Get 3 current lines of credit and keep them open for a year. Pay some money upfront to open up a ccard or something that "reports" to bureaus.
In one year your score will be 640+ just on getting new good credit alone to cover up all the old bad stuff. Start small and think small. All you want is something current and good.

you can definately raise your score big time in one years time.

Tuerned down for car loan with great credit but bad debt to income ratio.

Hello, Bo!

I was recently turned down for an auto loan because the Bank said I had too many open accounts, and my debt to income ratio was too high. Being that I have always had excellent credit and have never been denied before in my life, I immediately ordered my credit report.

My credit report states that I have 21 open lines of credit, some with lines as high as $18,000. My Fico score from Experian is 733. I have no negative marks on my report, no judgements, no delinquincies. I have an 81 month history showing, with not even 1 past due mark anywhere, ever. On all of my accounts, the highest reported balances have never been over 40% of my limits. I didn't get to the comfortable financial situation I enjoy now by being irresponsible with my bills, or my credit.

I'm concerned because I noticed several things on my report that I don't understand. For example, the same Macy's charge card account is listed 4 times, all with the same account number, but all with different opening dates, last activity reported dates, and 2 with higher credit limits than the other two. I have only ever had 1 card with Macy's. I only applied for the card one time, and I cannot understand why it appears 4 times, as 4 separate open accounts (all with the same account number, mind you). All are reported favorably, paid as agreed. However, the combined line of credit for all 4 comes to almost $10,000. They are listed as separate open accounts.

There are several other cards, including a JC Penney Charge card, and a Chase credit card that appear more than once, with different account numbers and opening dates, even credit limits. I have only ever applied for 1 Penney's card. I have only applied for 1 Macy's card. I have only applied for 1 Chase card...etc. Other than our mortgage, my husband and I kept everything pretty separate, and I closed all of his accounts when he passed away 5 years ago.

Can I have the "phantom" accounts removed from my report? By my calculation, I have 8 "Ghost" accounts appearing on my report. They are all favorable accounts with excellent history, so I am not questioning identity theft or anything like that. I'm just concered about all the open credit lines.

Also, Can I close credit accounts that I have not used in over 5 years without a negative impact on my score? They are all in good standing, and all have $0 balances (for years).

Needless to say, I was very upset to be denied a $20,000 car loan when I have 2 million dollars sitting in the bank, and I make over $60,000 a year in interest that I live on. I thought I did everything right, and now I'm not so sure. I am 54 years old and have NEVER paid a bill late in my life. Why is my score so low?

I would appreciate your help...your website has been very informative.

Thank you for your time,
Rea Live Person

dispute the macys as duplicate. use the form n my site
dispute the others as duplicates also

Debt ratio has to do with income versis debt not bad accounts or owe too much to amount allowed to owe

733 is great. i assume they turned you down because you have more than 40% debt against you monthly income
If you can pay your debts down less than 60000 x .40 / 12 equals 2000 per month allowed for debt agianst income.

No bank can loan someone more than they can reasonably pay so they set it at .40 - .45 of monthly obligations.

How to I fix credit theft and bad credit on my credit report

Monday, June 18, 2007

I cosigned a loan and now my credit report and credit scores show an attachment paragraph/statement.
I am a 57 year old female who was in better than good credit shape until 2001 when I co-signed a loan for $5,000 to help my oldest daughter establish good credit. I did the same thing for her with her cell phone. She made the payments for at least a year, I moved 200 miles away thinking everything was OK, did not think to advise the bank and cell company's of my change of address, and a year later the phone began to ring. She had been given an additional $5,000 in credit and max'd out the card. She hadn't made a payment in over a year. When she could no longer pay her cell phone bill, she simply turned off the phone and made the bills disappear, avoided the collectors and moved from time to time to keep herself unavailable. You don't want to know the BS she sold me~

When I moved I applied for a mortgage loan. I was overqualified to purchase the simple home in West Eugene. I was denied the loan and given my credit report. During the next 18 months, I paid off all the credit debts, settling the $10,000 with the collector. They didn't care about how I got in the mess, they could not help me in any way.

I was so embarrassed and humiliated when the loan apps were refused. My daughters name did NOT appear on any of the paperwork and I was responsible. I don't want that to happen again. I need to get those awful statements removed from the reports. Can you help me with that? I did buy that home with the help of a friend. Both our names appear on the title but it was his good credit scores and my finances that got us in. In May, I want to apply for a refinance and take over the existing mortgage. If I can clean up the nasty 'attachments' to my credit report it would really help.

I look forward to your reply,

What you do is put the same kind of an attacthment on the account and state your side of the situation.
Make it 100 words or less. 50 is the best number.
Establish new good credit. You might try to re open that same account which is so problematic. It would show that you mean good but got caught in a bad spot. Use the free dispute form on my webite for personal info and write the letter, get in notorized, send it certified mail.
Establish new good credit

My name is Live Human and I was just looking at my credit report and I have some questions. Hopefully you can help me out. If I pay off debt that was already sent to the collection agency will that make my credit score better? Also if I cancel some cards that I have open and that are paid off will that hurt my credit? Should I just leave them open? Please email me and let me know! thanks!

I have been trying to remove some false information from my credit report.
and I went through the process of asking the Company "LHR INC." to validate the debt.
It has been over 70 days and they have yet to remove the information from my credit report.
I called them today and spoke to 4 different people each of them gave me a completely different story.
One guy got pissed when I told him the call was being recorded only after he gave me VERY WRONG INFORMATION.
He told me that even though they haven't validated the debt, the information will stay on my credit report until I pay it off. I told him the call was being recorded after he said this to me, he got very angry and hung up on me.
I recorded each of the phone calls. Would I be able to use these phone calls to file a lawsuit against them?
Any information would be very helpful.

Hey Bo
I have found your website very informative, for the last 3 months I have been working very hard to raise my credit score which started at a very low 524 now it is up to 554. I have paid off all my collection accounts and 2 credit card charge offs. for the last 6 months I haven't been late on any revolving or installment account. all the collections have been deleted from my credit report, although the 2 charge off credit cards shows "paid in full" they would not delete totally. I have a Truck Loan 1 yr old Harley Loan 3 years old (one 30 late pay last year(was out of the country)) credit card 500 limit which I pay off each month, and a 5000.00 signature loan which was paid off in a year. I think the thing that is really effecting my score is about 4 years ago I lost my job and couldn't make my payments and I have some 30 60 90 120 late pays. We want to purchase a home in the fall through the veterans "va" loan program and want to raise my score as quick as I can. Just looking for some things to do this quickly

Thank you for your time

keep the good stuff going and forget the rest
your score will go up by the time you are ready for a house

Hi Bo
Recently, I was delinquent on a credit card for almost 90 days because I was unaware that I had a balance! I have NEVER missed a payment of any kind on any loan or card up until this point, and they refused to fix my report even after I paid all of the crazy fees and now have a zero balance. I am 26 and had open credit accounts for the last 5 years or so. How much is this delinquency hurting my score? I had a 720 before all of this business! the kicker is.... the past due balance was about $30! This has been VERY agravating.Any suggestions would be apreciated!

Dear Bo,
How are you? My name is Real Live Human Being. I currently live in Los Angeles, CA. and want to clean up my credit. I also want to remove any questionable or unrecognizable items. I have an address on my report that I never lived at. The address is 85 Blue Bird Lane in upstate New York. For a long time my sister was using my identity and I think she used it during her stay at this address. I was hoping you could help me and remove this address from my report. If there is anyway you could call me and let me know if this is possible I would really appreciate that. I hope to hear from you soon and have a great day. All my best.
Sincerely,

The creditor sent an e mail to collection agency to removed old debt from report but agency says they want. What legal authority can I cite in a letter to collection agency to get them to remove or what else can I do.

Hi Bo,

I am browsing the web and came across your web-site which provided insight as to cleaning my own credit. Although I have managed to settle out of 5 accounts, but three of which remain stubbornly on my report. I am have tried to dispute by phone, but was surprised to learn that although they are old, it can be re-sold as new accounts to credit agencies as many time as they deem necessary, even though the statutory time limit expired. Pretty slick if you ask me. However, I am certain that if researched properly it will show that these three stubborn accounts were in fact 8 or even 9 years old. Any ideas or any help you can provide me in hopes to complete delete these three accounts from my report. As mentioned, I took care of paying off 5 accounts and have settlement letters indicating same, should I send these letters to the Credit Bureaus. I need everything cleared from my report less then 30 days from now.

Your truly,
Desperately seeking answers.

Try this one them.
One should not have to pay twice for the same.

Hi, Bo Your website is awesome!

I have a collection account that was reported to the bureau on 4/2002. I had been paying the account, but come to find out, it had to be paid off by a certain time and if it werent, they wrote it off and reported you as delinquent. This is for a dcotor's bill. I paid off the $100 immediately in 2002. The status shows as paid on my credit report, but it still shows as a collections account. How can i request that this be removed?

Beyond this collection account, last year i decided to co-sign on my brother's car loan. BIG mistake, but I wanted to give him a chance, like I was given at his age. I have found out that he has been late 5 times. But he shot by high 600 credit score down to 560. Is there any possible way to get these removed? I have taken on the payments to ensure that they are paid on time. Please advise. I am so stressed about this situation. Very hard lesson learned.

number one.
You might dispute it as not yours and hope.
number two.
I sold cars for 14 years. I explain these potentials to all who co sign. Sell the car and pay off the loan as fast as possible. The brother just does not deserve help

Hi, how you doing, I have been having problems with my credit report, but in 2000 I was in the hospital cause I was having problems, and then I nerver recieved a billo cause some of my insurance was paying for it, well after i moved they nerver sent me a bill telling me how much it was so they waited till 2005 and put it in the report, but it will stay for 2 years since they waited 5 yrs to put it in there, what can i do about that,
and Suggestions
----------------------
Thats what one expects if they move. Creditors cant find you so they put it on your report and make you find them. You should validate the debt if you are unsure about it. http://www.oskie.com/how-i-get-paid-collection-collections-account-removed-credit-report-completely.htm

I would negotiate to pay in full if they take it off.

I have disputed some late payments on my credit cards online. Usually they come back as investigated and still remain the same. I was late on the payments but someone told me to dispute and usually they can't prove it and thay come off. It hasn't worked for me is there another way? Also, I want to pay off some debt using a service that settles with the credit cards and then I pay the service a fee. Will this effect my credit since they will have to close my accounts out?Thank you,

Negotiate with the credit cards holders. It may not help but you can try.

Debt settlements are ok but they always negatively affect your score. So yes it will

I just want to say Thank you for all of the information you provide. It has helped me tremendously. I have spent close to $5,000 on people who claim to Repair Credit only to end up in a worst situation or nothing happening at all. So I recently decided to do it myself. I only wish I would have used that money toward some of my debt.

Anyway, I do have a question for you that I haven't been able to figure out on my own. On my credit report there are numerous names that are suppose to be my name or names I've used. They have different spelling or a middle initial or a letter is off of the last name, etc.etc. I have not used these names to get credit nor have I requested credit under these names. Does this hurt my credit? In addition to the various names are also addresses at residencies I never lived.

Should I be concern about them? If so, can you advise how I would go about getting them removed please.

You should not be to concerned about these.
This happens when someone makes a mistake typing in your info for credit.
One can dispute this stuff though.

17.00 on my credit report. I approved for a home loan

Hello,
I was reading your website and thought I would ask a question, I was looking at my credit report and found a collection agency entry on one of the three credit reports, Experian, its only for $17.00 but I need to get it off or at least show as paid, I may owe the money, I don’t know, it’s from the town I used to live in for garbage pickup service,
We are buying a house, since we had filed bankruptcy anything I can do to get my scores higher so I can get a better rate, So here is the questions:
I could pay the $17 dollars to the collection agency, try to get them to remove the entry, but what if they then notified all three credit bureaus? Then I’d be worse off
I could pay the town, then dispute it through Experian
Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Seventeen dollars is not helping or hurting your score but it needs to show paid in full. So talk to the collection agency and see if they will take it off if you pay the fee. You may need to get authorization for the collection agency to do this from the town.

Written off and included in bankrutcy on my credit report.

Hi, I'm trying to correct my credit report after chapter 13 bankruptcy. I finally got the credit card companies to report a $0 balance due. However, not they are reporting the comments "included in bankruptcy, $4,035 written off"

Are they allowed to report written off, after bankruptcy has been discharged?

The comments do not hurt your score and the included in BK is actually very good as most BK fail to make the details available on most accounts that have been included in bankruptcy. Written off really just says the same thing as included in BK and means nothing at all.
Of course any accounts stay on credit for seven years not until a BK is discharged.
Get new credit going and make sure all your reports show your BK accounts included in BK zero balance.
