Get a new credit card, keep the credit card open for at least 12 months and your credit report FICO score will jump 10 to 50 points.
I had a BP oil gas credit card charged off for 350 dollars in 1992. I paid the charge off in full after calling and talking to a manager and explained I wanted to re open the same account and be a good credit citizen. Once I paid the charge off I called the same manager up again and said I would send them 300 dollars to re open the credit card. I wrote a check, mailed it to BP Oil and waited till it cleared my bank account to call the manager again. They said a BP Oil credit card under the same account was on the way.
I charged my gas each month and sent in an extra 20 or 30 dollars each months for 12 consecutive months.
I then called a BP oil manager and and asked if they woul report only the past 24 months of my revovling credit on this account and they did.
My FICO jumped 100 points in 12 months.
