I ran my own, and I find a collection for $

Quoting REAL PERSON
Bo,
I was about two months away from buying a house, had a score of about 650 and before my lender ran my reports I ran my own, and I find a collection for $70. I called the company and found out it was from an unpaid hospital bill that had been sent to the wrong address. The collection company even said that they had in their files that the bills were returned to them. I paid by credit card, and they agreed to remove the item. To be safe I filed a dispute with all the cards only to find out that the collection agency is now refusing to remove. I called them and they claim they never said they would remove the item.
My question is, do I have any legal rights here since I never got a bill. Had no way of knowing my insurance didn't cover this portion of my bill and now have a mark that will hurt me to the tune of thousands of dollars in higher interest rates. It just seems like I should be able to sue the collection agency over something like this.
What would you advise I do?

This is the typical he said she said didnt get i billed you kind off stuff that frustrates a lot of folks.

There is almost no way it sounds to get the people to remove the record.
1. I would add a comment to the record stating my case.
2. I would ask for proof in writting that they billed "ME" or threaten in a legal tone to take this up with the FTC.
3. I would call my insurance company and try to find something out from them about this bill. I advocate paying hospitals and not colllection companys on bill such as these. The hospital has the right to legally take items off your credit for billing mistakes if you can prove it was there mistake, an insurance mishap or just a mail mistake. The problem is the he said she said stuff.

You need to get your hands on some documents.
Alwaya get something in writting about removals before you make payments. Say send me a letter stating you will remove the account or mark paid as agreed and in full before one pays or else snafu.

I would definately try to find the root cause of this issues with thre hospital, the insurance company and the collection company.

hope this helps
