What letter do I send to find out my balance on a closed or charged off account

I was reading thru your website and it has inspiried me to start working to repair my credit. I do believe i'm at the bottom barrel of credit and am looking to repair damage done within the last 24 months. What letter do I use to request the total balance on an closed account from the original creditor as on my credit report no collection agency is listed.
I would like to pay these accounts either in full or thru payment plans and hopefully reopen the closed credit cards and pay on an repo car.
Please let me know the best way to begin this process.
------------------------------
just dispute it with the bureaus first
say it is not yours then use the addresses and phone number to call or write for that information
there is not any pat letter
just write what is my balance on account #send a copy of your driver license

College student with charged off verizon cell phone bill

I'm a just a graduated college student, and I got notice from Verizon who handed chanrges on my account to a collection agency. I couldn't pay it in full two months ago, and I called the collection agency the next day, trying to negotiate a payment plan. The only option they gave was a two credit card installments in the same month, or a direct full payment from a bank account. This happened on 12 March. I was in the middle of school work and lab work, and didn't know who to ask, and what to do. The balance is $259. I purchased DSL connection on February 4, 2007, and when I spoke to the representative, I asked several times if the contract is month-to-month and if there will be an early termination fee if I end it prior to one year because I didn't know if I will stay at my current address. His answer was no. The service was terminated by Verizon in December 2007. I paid my bills until September, then I called a month later to terminate the service, in the first week of October. Turns out the service was not terminated, and continued to accumulate charges. They also charged me an early termination fee $79. There was no dial tone in the outlet in November, but I didn't even check in October, and I assumed that they terminated the connection right away. They say they have no trace of my call to terminate the service. I don't know if I can prove that there was no dial tone. In your opinion is it more harm than good to dispute the charge, do I have anything to hang-on to, or should I just pay the full amount? They hired a collection agency, and they contacted me on March 12. It has been one month-and-half and I don't know how to pay the amount so that it does little damage to my credit score and report. I can pay it in full, but I would much rather pay it with my credit card over several months. Please advise!
------------------------
i would talk to verizon
beg plead
beg plead
ask for a manager beg plead
be willing to pay in full right then ask for a letter of paid in full and as agreed with no lates and that the collection be removed
signed on company letterhead if they want do the paid in full
pay them anywayand be donebut get something in writing that either the collection or the verizon comes off you credit if possible

Charged off old credit card. Validate

I have an old credit card that was charged off back in 1994, with my credit score in the low 800's now, I received a letter from Portfolio Recovery trying to collect. I sent certified mail asking them for VALIDATION as you recommended...? and they sent me a letter showing my current address. Then this past Friday they sent me a letter saying they were going to continue to pursue with collection. Would you recommend I pay it off or...?
-----------------------------
that is too old
i would try to avoid that in a big waylegally i do not think they can collect
to give only your address is not validating the collection
i would use the validation follow up letter
then call the state attorney general

How do I delete charge off acounts on my credit report?

Will you give me advice or pointers on how to delete charge off accounts on my credit report. I am trying to get back on track with my credit. My credit mainly consist of installment debt and collection debt that has been charged off. What can I do? Your response, time, and concern would be greatly appreciated.
---------
if you paid the charge off, there is nothing much you can do but dispute the collections as not yours and hope
if they are unpaid then negotiate for some credit help on your credit score before you pay.
Installment late payments are pretty much set in stone unless they have beem paid off a long time ago or the company went out of business or something. Get these late payments 24 months old with no new lates and your bad credit score will go up.

Two credit reports show Spiegel accounts as charged off

My problem, briefly: At least two credit reports list Spiegel accounts as charged off ( one even states Profit/Loss Write Off ) with DOLA at Dec. 2001. The same two CRA's are reporting Midland Credit Management as creditor of the same accounts and are being reported as "opened" in December 2007. In other words, Spiegel and MCM are reporting the same accounts twice in each CRA. I believe with the DOLA at Dec. 2001 plus the fact that I live in NY, the accounts have reached the SOL. Still, I don't want the MCM listings since they are neither valid nor the OC. I copied one of your validation form letters and re-worded it some to fit in with having found the information on the CR. On both CRs, MCM gives almost no information: only last three numbers of acct., no contact information and obviously the blatant misrepresentation of when the accounts were opened. Are the last four digits of the acct. number enough ? Should I send the CMRRR (or whatever the acronym is) to any one of their business addresses I find on line. By the way, I have sent letters to dispute to the CRA's, but I feel that is probably not enough.

make them validate that debt with signatures and legal chain of ownership
or call the attorney general and ftc and bbb

negotiate and settlement on a charge off account

I am trying to find someone to negotiate a pay-off for me on several charge-off's. I have the money to pay, but would like to get a good report on my credit once paid. Lexington law does not do this. Can you recommend someone are a company. There are a lot of debt consolidation companies, but I have the money now. I am unable to do this myself no matter how easy it seems.
-------------------------
why not?
------------------------
Not that skilled in those tactics, better for me to pay someone. Hate to deal with creditors. Do you know anyone?
------------------------

Do you help with charge off's and negotiating with creditors.
-------------------------
i have all the info you need free on my site

if not pay in full and ask them to not re date the date of last activity

if you have collections from second or third parties
use debt validation

oh
get any deal on company letter head signed by whomever you agree with
other than the last and least benificial option of paying in full with no real help

Medical bill charged off and sent to collection agencies.

Hey Bo I wanted some advice. I have some medical bill and I have paid them. They were with collection agencies. Can I still have them remove the bad information? What do you say to them. also with charged-off credit cards what do you say?
------------------
one must negotiate BEfor you pay to get the bad marks off

the credit cars are a different story
pay them off
then reopn the same acount with a downpayment
call and tell them before hand you are trying to be a reasonable credit worthy person and need help

after 6 mo, 12 mo, 24 mos
ask them to report only the past 24 month preriod
since these are revovling credit lines
they usually only report the past 24 months anyway
so your not asking for much

i did it with a bp oil card
-----------------
Bo what about with cards like capital one. I have a charge off account and they are still charging me interest. what do you suggest?
------------------
call them
ask for some way to get back in good graces
be willing to pay a downpayment on top of what you owe
ak for help with interest and penalties

explain you are trying to buy a home and be a reasonable credit person
ask for help
you are a ood person who had some problems
just give me a chance
------------
Bo I wanted to ask you if old accounts are removed say tha have passed the statue will that help you beacon.
---------------------
yes but not much
as accounts from today
back two years
count for 80% of ones score

7 years is when account comes off your report
so keep good recent credit open

------------------
Bo I am confused about the validation? I do have charge off accounts so do I just sent the letter and what happen with the account while it is being validated. I am in the process of trying to settle with a collection company for Sams card I asked him if they would remove it or show it paid in full. But he said they did not do that. Did I ask the right thing? What are my other options?
----------------
validation is best used for collections from second or third parties

sams is a first party
so validation is not what you need wuth sams

you have done right with them
try to get them to remove if paid in full
if they will not ask them to settle for less, and mark paid in full
if they will not do that ask for marked paid in full with no new date of last activity at least, if you pay in full

Macy's charge off credit card did not change last name.

In 2004 I returned to my maiden name. All credit card companies promptly changed my last name per my request except one: Macy’s. A year and a half ago I had moved and informed Macy’s, but they still did not change my address (and subsequently my last name). I apparently had a small balance (less than $100) on the account which I had thought was paid off, but because the last name was not current the post office did not forward any bills. 6 months later I received a call from Macy’s wanting a payment, which had now doubled due to late fees. I immediately paid over the phone, but for some reason it did not go thru, nor did Macy’s return the call to inform me so my account continued to be delinquent. I checked the account online out of curiosity a month or so later and saw the balance and promptly mailed a payment this time by check. I also wrote to Macy’s informing them of their incorrect name and address and that being to reason as to the delinquent payment, and asked to close the account. This has hurt my credit score and I was wondering if there was any way to rectify this problem. Will adding a comment help?
-------------------------
all of the reasons do not fly
last name and did not forward because of last name change and move

you already paid
when you pay before negotiating the account stays on your report
get new good credit and forget abot past old bad credit

you did what i would do and that is pay and go on with your life

Charged off credit card Experian. Transunion Equifax removed account

I was hoping you might have some advice for me. I have one last charged off credit card on Experian. I was able to get this item off of Transunion and Equifax. In fact, my credit is clean and I have good revolving credit otherwise. I keep mailing the dispute to Experian, and they keep mailing me back a letter rejecting it.
--------------------
give it up and go on.
you have done all you canwait 7 years from date of last activity.
get and keep new good reported credit
