On your website, you said to dispute old, incorrect, or unfamiliar items on the credit report.
What do you mean by old?
Why can I dispute it because it is old?
Any extra help?
I made some stupid decisions back in high school and I AM HAVING TO CLEAN UP MY ACT NOW. Is there any law that can help me out when I created debt before I was 18? Sucks but what can you do?
---------------------------------
anything older than 2 years
says 'not mine" and pray. you might get lucky
if they come back trueuse the addresses to validate anything that is a collection or charge off
and yes
i would try anything that was set up when you were 17 as most companies do not do this
although I did get my 17 year old cosigned on a car note for future credit
dispute those as not mine, i was only 17 and pray.

Credit Questions
Simple credit question
In a phone conversation with Bank of America I was shocked to learn that some collection agency has me owing someone $365.00 from 2005 that has not been paid. Otherwise I am blemish free, but this black mark has by credit score at 676. I know my score was 720 in Jan 08.I feel sure this is the work of my ex-wife. How do I pay the bill & get rid of black mark?
------------------------------------
dispute it as not yours
if they find it
legally validate the debt
if they can do that
negotiate to pay if they will remove it
you need to know if thery have your signature and legal chain of ownership

Adding alternative tradeline to credit report
Good afternoon, Bo. How do I get alternative tradelines such as a water bill to report on my credit report? Do I need to contact the water company and ask them to do it? How much does it cost them to report it regularly?
---------------------------------
utilities are not considered credit
phone, water, electric, insurance. They do not report unless you do not pay.
sometimes one can get rent reported with a direct credit reference
http://www.oskie.com/free-letter/direct-credit-reference-sample-form-letter.htm
----------------------
Wouldnt the rent have to be from a "management company"?
If an "individual" or "management company" reports it do they have to pay the bureaus to report it regularly like any other tradeline?
What about "rent to own" companies?
---------------------------
rent is direct credit reference only
most bureaus do not count rent into fico scores
so no
rent to own means"nothing" on a credit score

Credit help questions for late payments, charge offs and court
I payed off a lot of deb with income taxes on my credit report it shows payed but is there anyway to get them off? I was reading Ur site and u was talking about get written letters saying the would take it off Ur credit if u agree to pay
which in my case is a cell phone bill
should i pay the attorney that sent me a letter or the cell phone company? My husband has a direct tv bill from when he was 18 and he is now 27 but it shows up when we try and get something but i don't see it on our credit report and directv doesn't help when i try and call them b/c the said they need a address he doesn't remember it one more question we both have 3 open accounts but one of his is through citi financial really high interest rates should we pay them off please help with any question need to get score up
---------------------------
number one credit help mistake
paying off past bad debt BEFORE you talk to them and ask for help, removal, or to reopen.
i would try to re open anything that i paid off and after 12-24 months ask them to only report the past 24 months. ATTORNEY. OOOOPPPPS your in trouble there.
I would call the cell company first
attorney second and BEG. Dispute the direct TV bill with the credit dispute form. say not yours you never lived at that address.
you should pay the citi card down to less than 79% of your high credit limit. Keep it open and pay good for 1 -2 years.

How do I obtained the phone numbers to the companies I owe?

dispute the accounts as

you will get the addresses or they will fall off in 35 days or less
What letter do I send to find out my balance on a closed or charged off account
I was reading thru your website and it has inspiried me to start working to repair my credit. I do believe i'm at the bottom barrel of credit and am looking to repair damage done within the last 24 months. What letter do I use to request the total balance on an closed account from the original creditor as on my credit report no collection agency is listed.
I would like to pay these accounts either in full or thru payment plans and hopefully reopen the closed credit cards and pay on an repo car.
Please let me know the best way to begin this process.
------------------------------
just dispute it with the bureaus first
say it is not yours then use the addresses and phone number to call or write for that information
there is not any pat letter
just write what is my balance on account #send a copy of your driver license

Fix my bad credit advice.
I have been reading so many sites and I'm totally confused.
I read your blogs and you see to know what you are doing.
I have been Self-Employed for about 6 years and to start my dream I maxed out my Credit Cards. Tough times hit and I fell into default.
We are selling our home and moving to TN and highly motivated to clean up our credit so we can adopt another child. I know that I have 2 judgments on my credit and they will be cleared once I sell my home.
My question is. Where do I start? Any advice would greatly be appreciated.
-------------------------
you start buy getting your credit report then
read this Raise my credot score fast quickly free
then read this Credit Help
----------------------------
Maybe my eyes are tired of reading today.
Do you have any information on your site about how to get judgments off of you credit after you have paid them. If I have overlooked it I am sorry for the waste of your time.
----------------------------
judments are very hard
but this lady seems to think she knows
read this
Almost 99% of the time for me, there are probably 5 addresses on mine, or others report that are actually on there wrong
anyways, even the slightest mis spelling or backwards address is wrong, so I would either say not mine, unless I do it online, it automatically says "I have never lived there" so I delete all those addresses. They will delete them the first time, especially of you add a fraud alert first. So I send a letter saying please delete the following addresses as they are incorrect: 1,2,3 etc. If you do it online you may actually have it done within 10 days -2 weeks.
Then do the same on another letter with each additional item, such as dob, aka's, etc.
After you get this back you can have a hay day deleting stuff, because the creditors have to be able to connect you in some way to that debt, and if there is no address that is the same as the one in the debt, they will delete it. Its so fun to get credit reports back with 10 things deleted. :)After you have the bare bones on your credit reports, dispute the judgement and sometimes even after the 1st try, you'll get it back clean! :) I just deleted a BK off my parents report doing this as well. Please let me know if this works for anyone, It really makes me happy when I can help someone. I started learning about this after I had identity theft, and had to fight for years. I kinda got it down to a science, although I did find a cool site tonight that taught me some things. http://www.creditinfocenter.com/rebuild/debt_validation.shtml
I have always only worked with the actual credit bureaus to delete things and never really the actual creditor until recently with companies like RJM collections, and other "bulk" collectors. This was a new technique I have never tried until tonight, so I have some mailing to do tomorrow for my husband. lol
Well, I hope you have a great night and if you need any help. Let me know and let me know if you get any success.
Thanks again for your always interesting and informative posts online. :)
-------------------------
I just want to make sure I understand this that I read. If I have a card in collections, I should contact the original company offer a settlement and see if I may reopen the account?
--------------------------------
no
if you call the original creditor you should offer to pay it all and some extra if they will open the same account back up and let you start over.
After 12 months ask them to report only the past 24 months activity offer settlements or reduced payments to collections that do not pay but 20 cents on the dollar

3 in 1 credit report has descrepanicies
My fiancee and I recently pulled up his 3-in-1 credit report and noticed discrepancies on all bureau but mostly on the Experian Credit Bureau.
We called all agencies listed on the report and they verified that although it was the same name the accounts had different social numbers and mailing addresses.
When I spoke to a representative of one of the listed agencies, he stated that Experian goes first by name, then address and then social security number.
Is that true?
If so, how is that fair to the millions of people that share the same name?
Also I read on your blog that you should write about 4 accts at a time, well we are dealing with about 11!!!! 11 mistakes from Experian, all already confirmed by the collection agencies, which also stated it wasn't rare of Experian to mix identities up.
Also when you state on your blog to send a copy of the credit report, is it the whole 12 pages or just the part in concern (may sound like a silly question but want to do this right), and the credit report shows each item with each credit bureau right next to each other.
If I send a dispute item to Experian, should I covered the report from TransUnion and Equifax about such item, or doesn't really matter? Thank you so much!!!!!
--------------------------------------
no
send just the part that shows descrepancies and circle what is wrong
send them 4 at a time anyway.
you can send 3 sets of 4 if you like. one has to dispute with each bureau seperately as no bureau, ask the other, for information
they are independant of each other

Dispute bad credit
i once had a company dispute my bad credit. they told me that all bad credit has to go through a series of laws before it can be posted on my credit report and that the process is so long that the majority of companies don't do it.
and that was how he was removing my bad credit by asking if it was reported legally and if they responded yes he would ask for proof and eventually it would get removed.
my question is how do i get that program or how do i go about doing it that way? please help

debt validation follow up letter and no respones within 30 days
thank you for all your help so far.
It has been almost a month since I sent my validation letters.
2 of them came back from different co's. with a letter that stated they sent me info on the collection on 04-07-07 and that I had 30 days to comply.
Going further, they stated that since i did not validate it, i assumed the debt. Yet they sent me no info that I asked for!
What should I do. (By the way those 2 co. are the same, using 2 different names for the same amount of money) What should I do for this as well?
And finally the 3rd co. sent me a one sheet letter that said VALIDATION LETTER, with my acct # and last transaction date and the original creditor name but none of the specific info asked for on your Validation letter.
What should i do here?
Maybe send them follow up letters? Any help will be appreciated!
----------------------------
dispute with bureaus certifed mail on more time
not yours, error on credit report
then call and file a complaint
-------------------------------
i have sent the second set of letters but have yet to hear from them.
should i contact all the credit bureaus and ask them to take it off my file (and send them all documents i have), or should i go to the attorney general?
-------------------------------
this should prompt them to provide said docs.
but sure ad that in.
then complain to attorney general here is another set of doc which might help you

CA question about disputed credit line
I've written this CA for a month now; in 3 days it will be thirty days. They just wrote to me and said they put the accounts on hold yet they are still pursuing collections by reporting the debts to my CRA. What can I do to get these removed from my CRA? How should I proceed?
--------------------------------
ca? collections agency? writing them for 30 days. what a validation letter?
have you disputed the account with the universal dispute form who is putting the account on hold. the collection agency?
the bureau?
i am missing something
if not go to yahoo groups'credit repair' ask them
seems like you could use more legal advice
--------------------------------
sorry, I'm a little flustered. I sent the collection agency a dispute letter, then after 3 weeks the collection agency wrote me just a few days ago saying they put the account on hold. But, they are still pursuing collections by reporting it. I also sent a follow up DV letter with no results. I don't know what "on hold" means and if it means they are halting collections why are they still reporting on my bureau? What should I do? I also sent copies of the letters to their registered agent.
------------------------------
it seems as if you could use smurfhandy at credit repair groups
i think you can do more than i can help you with
the debt validation letter sometimes scares them out of the box
i am a little unsure as what to do when they don't scare but three weeks is not very long even though is seems so.
try the validation letter again call your state consumer affairs division or state attorney general and complian to the bbb thats about the best i can do
Transunion and Experian dispute affidavit
I filed an FTC Affidavit with the 3 credit bureaus last year.
Equifax is the only one who deleted/blocked all of my requested items.
How can I have Experian and Trans Union contact me via e-mail to complete the process?
-----------------
Buy the credit report from those two websites
then use the credit report login number to access your account and do your affidavit deal online
they should contact you via email

What happens to collections when you pay original creditor
Thank you first for taking the time to read and answer my questions.
I sent the dispute letter to Audit and Adjustment - they sent me a letter back that says they marked the account as disputed and will be reported to the national credit reporting agencies.
Mind you I did not change your dispute letter at all. Also I was told that if I could get valley medical center to cash a check - that that means I am working with them and they are working with me - cutting out the collector per say is that true????
I did not a get a validation of debt from audit and adjustment. I don't know what to do now...And as far as I can tell the bureaus aren't really checking into things - because I have paid off a bunch of stuff and it still hasn't changed my report any. If I missed something in your writing would you let me know where to go read again please.
---------------------------------------
prompt bureaus to work for you with the dispute form on those paid bills.
say not yours or error audit and adjustment?
is that a collection agency?
if so validate the debt not just dispute? not sure what happened here
---------------------------------
Valley medical did cash my check.
-----------------------------
you should be able to rid yourself of the collections thenask valley medical to helpreally you should have hasked them before you paidButthey may still help you

What happened then turn crazy I tried every way I could to get someone at Experian to talk to me in real time. Instead they wanted all the information in punch line over the phone. Not one question they could of asked me would have fit my question because, the verycard I had applied for decline me because get this: NO CREDIT RECORD AVAILABELE. Now you see why I can't get through to any body at this credit site that will not even talk to me

Old Paid Collection Items-Help!!
Scenario; paid collections (5 total) back in 2006- have documentation-cancelled checks, letters from collections agency per agreement to pay.
Fast forward: New collections agency showed up on my credit report reporting same 5 debts as unpaid. forwarded proof to all three credit bureaus- report updated to show as paid collections to current collection agency, but I did not pay them... and that I did pay ...it was more than 2 yrs ago and to a different company. Next issue: when I was laid off in 2001,,I promptly applied for the credit protection insurance that I paid for each month prior to becoming employed- a few of the accounts were charged off, however insurance was paid on these few accounts. Have documentation from insurance company detailing each payment and date paid. Problem: Accounts sold to collections agency who is reporting the account as unpaid. How do I find out the charge off date and the balance owed at the time of charge off- I would like to compare amount owed at the time of charge off with the amount that was paid by the insurance company so that I can at least reduce the amount owed or show that it was paid in full prior to being transferred to the many collection agencies over the past seven years ( BTW- the most recent collection agency list the date of last activity as 2003- ( I have a credit report form 7 years ago which is contrary to what they are reporting . any advice would be appreciated.
-----------------
i would legally vaildate the debts with the new collectors trying to double your payout.
send them the copies of your payments and let them know you expect total removal or court action i have found protection insurance to be just like what you said
slow but after proding they do pay, usually after you credit crashes. I think i might be highly upset with them
i would file a compliant with the bbb and maybe call the state attorney general about this credit card proctection...HA collectors are not allowed to change dates.
this is a violation of the fair credit reporting act i would validate those debts and debate court action go to yahoo groups

Time Barred Debts ?
Bo, Last week I interviewed for a new job. While there, the HR director, asked about my credit report. I had a couple of items that have been settled. However, there are two that concernedthe organization. In fact, the alleged debts are over 5 years old. What I recall happening were credit cards that merged (and i'm told they've been sold again supposedly). Well, anyway, it appears that the amounts are doubled. I disputed this over 5 years ago and never heard anything. I see where one of them reappeared on my credit report, as recently as January 2008. (Equifax). I am in the process of disputing this with Equifax. I seem to recall doing that 5 years ago, but do not remember the result. What is your best advice ? Thank you Reply Forward

DOLA credit report question
I just received a collection letter on a credit card charge-off that I hadn't seen any activity on for the past 5 years. My question is this: My credit report lists a Status Date of 08/2003, but no activity date. I believe that my last payment on the account was about 12 months earlier, perhaps more, but I have no documentation on it.Although I'd like to get to a point where I can negotiate this old debt, my immediate concern is the legal options of the collection agency, and if the last activity was indeed a year or more before the Status Date, the SOL would be close at hand. Is there a way to get that information from the reporting bureau or original creditor?
------------------------------------
status date is the last time the creditor reported the status of the aforementioned account the date of last activity is a whole nother matter you you can tell i see i real am afraid to advise you on this as it seem you would like to debt to go away after 7 years and not pay it
i guess if i were trying thati might leave it alone the next thing is i might dispute the account as not listed with correct date of last activity
which could possibly stir up some hornets howeveri always assume debts will be sold at some point and a new date may show up
which could be newer and moe troublesome.usually if sold, debt go for .20 or less on the dollar.so if that happened i would try to settle for much less you do not say what the debt is

Need some credit advise on a judgment
I want good credit and have been freed of a bad marriage as of two year ago. With backed up bills and child support it took me a while to get my self in a position to pay these way over due debts. I had 9 debts in collection and have settled all 9 of them as of 3Jun08. My current score is 578 but I hope to see growth with in the next year. Being that I settled these accounts how do I go about removing paid settlements from my credit report and how long will that take?

Credit Report
MY husband and I have been working on our credit report for a little while and have all of our past debts paid in full. Now all we have is one more left. Our problem is i called to settle the debt and they have no record of our account what so ever. I have given them our S.S.# and everything i possibly could to get this debt settled. Now this debt is the only thing that is keeping us from getting the house we want. How do i take care of something that i can't fix now. I tried to make our wrong a right but now i can't. The debt is a repo through Capitol One auto finance. Will the credit reporting company's take this off since Capitol One has no record of it in their system. If not do you have any advise for us

Duplicate credit reporting
paid off a Wells Fargo credit card in full back in November 2006. It had been referred to Hilco receivables credit agency so I paid them. Hilco reported on my credit as paid in full, but recently (June 08) I noticed that it was reported again by Hilco receivables, but this time it said that the delinquency date of reporting was in February 2007. I don't understand what this is. If I paid it in full in November 2006 why are they reporting a delinquency date of 2/07? So now I have Wells Fargo (original debt) and 2 Hilco reports on my credit. I should have only 1 from Hilco stating that it was paid in full on 11/07 right? I have another bank credit card with 0 balance of a $1,500 limit, a new BMW and a good job that I have been on for 2 years with a major company, yet my score is now 610. lower than it was at the beginning of this year. I want to buy a house that I am looking at but I am concerned about my credit score. I want to call Hilco but will the call be considered an activity where I will be given 7 more years from the activity date?

Dispute that account with the bureaus.
Say not mine or a illagal duplicate of a past paid account
then
validate the acount in writing by creditfied delivery mail to Hilco. Explain you plan to follow all your rights by law under the FCRA and have disputed this account with the bureaus for the suit which will follow this plainly illegal activity. If this is not resolved within 30 - 35 days file compliant with state attorney general, then go to court with the documented finding from these two letters.
